The most important instrument of the American multi-instrumentalist Eartheater is her voice. Since her debut album «Metalepsis» in 2015, the New York-based artist has layered fragments of text – at times manipulated, at times unaltered – over compositions that draw on pop but extend far beyond it. Eartheater’s musical influences range from opera to noise and experimental music, which she bends and reshapes according to her own vision, like metal forged in the heat of a flame.
In her lyrics, she returns to the personal, using it as a means of expressing her emotions, sharing them with confidence. The result is a body of work that unfolds like a musical landscape in which unexpected discoveries become possible: musical crystals grow in the darkest valleys.
On stage, Eartheater’s affinity for atmosphere and theatricality culminates in a performance that radiates from the artist herself. Bothintimate and otherworldly, she encounters the audience of the Zürcher Theater Spektakel in one of her few European concerts this year as a presence who stages a musical plea for deeply felt experience – while remaining open to whatever these experiences may set free.
