Without trust, shared reality and social life would hardly be possible. In the interactive installation «Public Trust», visitors to the Landiwiese are invited to reflect playfully on trust, promises and social cohesion. Make a pledge, a vow, a pinky promise or give your word of honour. Anonymous promises appear on a large billboard alongside political, scientific and today’s «promises» taken from the headlines.

We can’t do without trust. Not in the complex societies we live in, where we depend on so much information, things and people, with no way ofverifying them. Yet trust is under growing strain. Fake news, social media, a culture of outrage and the shrinking lifespan of information have eroded trust in public discourse and in institutions. Authoritarian leaders further undermine it. Who do we believe when heads of state lie openly or contradict themselves from one day to the next?
American visual artist Paul Ramírez Jonas brings together the promises we encounter in everyday life on a large billboard, where they forma shifting field of statements about the future.
Visitors to the Landiwiese are invited to make their own promises, which are recorded for them to keep and also appear on the display alongside other promises of the day – drawn from news headlines, weather forecasts and public statements.
