Smerz
Concert
Oslo, KopenhagenThe Norwegian duo Smerz have found their own way of combining electronic music, club culture and intimate glimpses of everyday life. They had their international breakthrough in 2025 with their album «Big City Life». Between irony, melancholy and euphoria, Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt tell stories about the lives of young urban people. Their sound is both experimental and accessible: languid beats, electronic influences and a deliberately handmade aesthetic strike a chord – from Oslo to Zurich.

Every now and then, music comes along that almost everyone can agree on – music that finds its way into the world at exactly the right moment and in exactly the right place. It carries emotions most of us recognise, even if we cannot always articulate them with the same eloquence.
With their latest album, the two Norwegian musicians Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt – known as Smerz – have achieved precisely this kind of alchemy. Previously known mainly within experimental music scenes, the duo found their breakthrough with «Big City Life» (2025).
As the title suggests, Smerz sing about the experience of being young and urban, of moving through the world among other people: ironic, melancholic and euphoric all at once. The sound accompanying these reflections carries distant echoes of club culture while never fully surrendering to it. Languid beats, traces of electro and other forms of electronic music – yet everything feels distinctly handmade.
With this mix, Smerz have struck a nerve, from Oslo to New York. On their «Big City Life» tour, Smerz stop by this year’s Theater Spektakel in Zurich.
