Stéphanie Mwamba

KIZAZI

Goma, Dakar

The conflicts and rebel movements in the DRC forced choreographer and performer Stéphanie Mwamba and her family to leave theirhomeland. In her powerful dance solo «KIZAZI», Swahili for «womb», she questions what it means to grow up as a woman in a region where the female body has been targeted by conflict for over fifteen years and is systematically subjected to sexualised violence. Moving between improvisation and fixed choreography, she creates intense, organic movements that carry an emancipatory force and affirm women as strong autonomous agents of a more just society.
