Honda Romance
Paris«Honda Romance» is grand visual theatre somewhere between contemporary circus, dance, performance and a TikTok party. The piece is a fast-paced trip through hundreds of emotional states and can be read as an aesthetic metaphor for our times: a world in a constant state of overstimulation. Or: a physical and musical score for ten performers, three wind machines and a satellite – loud, bizarre and brilliant. The latest coup by acclaimed French artist Vimala Pons is currently one of the hippest performances around.

In this visually striking and high-energy performance, a crashed satellite, an eccentric fashion show with an a cappella finale, and a surge of emotions collide. Emotions are at the centre of almost everything today. Social media turns them into profit, politicians use them to steer decisions, and artificial intelligence analyses them in real time.
«Honda Romance» is a fast-paced journey through hundreds of emotional states – an aesthetic metaphor for our time: a world of constant noise. The performance shifts between comedy and seriousness, physical risk and mental over-load. How do we stay steady amid it all?
In a musical score for ten performers, three wind machines and a satellite, the acclaimed French director and performer Vimala Pons gets to the heart of the matter. Together with musician Tsirihaka Harrivel, she continues her exploration of balance – or rather, of the forces that threaten it. Moving between performance, circus, dance and stand-up comedy, the performers plunge into states of physical and emotional extremity. An overload of stimuli in the best sense.

Easy to read
«Honda Romance» is a large and impressive show. It combines elements of circus, dance, performance and a TikTok party. The piece moves through many different moods and emotions. It creates the feeling of a world that is always changing and full of excitement.
Many performers are on stage. There is loud music, people sometimes sing together, and some scenes look like a fashion show. A satellite also appears. The different parts of the piece do not tell a single story. Instead, they create different moods and experiences. The show is loud, surprising and full of energy. There are many lighting changes, and some scenes use very bright lights. The French artist Vimala Pons created «Honda Romance» and is also on stage herself.
