Baby Volcano’s live performances are a blast. The artist, who grew up between French-speaking Switzerland and Guatemala, moves across the stage singing, dancing and rapping. The energy of her physical expression is just as important to this trained dancer as the sound, which can be categorised between reggaeton and hip hop.
Her first EP from 2021 is entitled «Síndrome Premenstrual» (premenstrual syndrom) and focuses on six different parts of the body in six tracks, from the uterus to the heart. Baby Volcano describes her music as «witch pop». Its characteristics include a lively mix of styles and text fragments in Spanish and French with an energy that can alternate between warmth and anger at anymoment. Sometimes the one, sometimes another feeling is more perceptible and audible, making her art a moving experience.
On stage, Baby Volcano is supported by two musicians who lay out the soundscape for her. This enables the young artist to express the performative facets of her gig with all her multidisci- plinary skills. (mn)
