Kush K present the Zurich premiere of their new album. The four-piece band from Zurich makes captivating, dreamy music inspiredby folk and pop with analogue and digital instruments. A synth pad pops up here and there, a trumpet pushes forward from elsewhere, bass and drums determine the dragged-out rhythm. Everything glides along at a pleasant speed.
The lyrics by singer Catia Lanfranchi meander along and tell of fleeting encounters as well as deeply felt ecstasy. The delicacy of Kush K’s music gives the impression of intimate familiarity between the band members and it is a pleasure to witness their bond. You will look in vain for musical ego trips, everything sounds as if it has been cast from the same psychedelic mould. A result that sometimes makes you forget that it is based on improvisation. Often it is just a few lines of text or a melodic sketch that lay the foundation for everything else that develops in their joint jam.
Just how well this way of music-making works for Kush K can be heard on the albums «Lotophagi» (2020) and «Your Humming» (2021): two works that reward close listening to without ever demanding it.(mn)
