Lenio Kaklea
Agrimi (Fauve)
Athens, ParisForests have always aroused controversy. While some people are committed to preserving those diverse ecosystems, others want to cut them down and exploit their resources, and still others write poems about them, tell legends and paint mystical pictures. However, the idea of the forest as something wild and uncontrolled seems to be long outdated. In today’s Europe, it is considered aplace of recreation and retreat. The forest exerts an ambivalent fascination on our bodies – in it we find peace, transformation and ecstasy, but also threat and death.
On a stylised stage with poles and video projections, Greek choreographer Lenio Kaklea explores the primal, elusive and everchanging nature of the forest. In «Agrimi (Fauve)», ideas of wilderness and conquest mingle with scenes of eroticism and play. Bodies and identities run wild and then recompose themselves, morph and metamorphose. The three dancers move with great virtuosity through the sparse stage space, which is atmospherically lit and comes to life to an intense soundtrack. Lenio Kaklea once again succeeds in finding a precise language of movement for a complex contemporary theme. (af)
