Dance as resistance represents one of the many levels of the sensational performance «Silent Legacy». This energetic dance event was created by the renowned choreographer Maud Le Pladec. Since her last work «counting stars with you (musiques femmes)»,she has been increasingly exploring oppression and self-empowerment – and continues to do so in «Silent Legacy».
The initial spark for this project came when Le Pladec stumbled across Adeline Kerry Cruz, a dance prodigy known for her excellent krumping skills. Krump is a dance style that originated in Black Los Angeles in the 2000s and found its way into the pop mainstream via music videos. In «Silent Legacy», Cruz performs alongside her mentor Jr Maddripp, a well-known figure in the international krumping scene. The unequal duo forms a contrast to a solo by the accomplished contemporary dancer Siaska Chareyre. The piece is accompanied by the well-known French electro DJ Chloé Thévenin. What this group conjures up in their joint performance is nothing less than breathtaking. (se)
Simple words
This dance piece has three parts.
In the first part, the eleven-year-old girl Adeline Kerry Cruz dances Krump alone on stage.
Then her teacher JR Madripp joins her and also dances Krump.
Krump is a powerful and sometimes angry dance, a bit like hiphop.
In the third part, Siaska Chereyre dances. She is a classical dancer.
This is accompanied by electronic music by French DJ Chloe Thévenin.
This dance piece is about self-empowerment.
It's a great show that brings together different generations.
