Hana Umeda
Rapeflower
Warsaw«Rapeflower» by Japanese-Polish choreographer Hana Umeda, explores experiences of sexual violence. Umeda addresses this issue as a cross-cultural weapon used to control (women’s) bodies. In a striking fusion of traditional Japanese Jiutamai dance and con- temporary performance, she portrays rape as a psychosomatic condition, along with trauma, survival strategies, and new beginnings. Umeda guides the audience on an emotional journey through her own body – a site of injury and objectification, but also of emancipatory, exploratory self-determination and resistance.
