Pin Wen Su
Leftover Market
Taipei«Leftover Market» is inspired by the term «Sheng Nu» – a designation for unmarried women over 27, widely used in Mandarin-speaking societies. Between a teddy bear costume and pop hits, the non-binary artist Pin Wen Su draws parallels between the «leftovers» of our fast-fashion-driven society and the judgement of those who do not conform to traditional gender roles. In doing so, Pin Wen Su intertwines personal experiences with Taiwan’s colonial history and the projection of Western femininity stereotypes onto Asian bodies – questioning: What is considered valuable in a patriarchal society that controls the lives and bodies of women?
