Dimitri de Perrot

Into the Dirt

Zurich

For children and families

What stories does the ground we walk on tell us? And what would happen if we started to listen? The Swiss theatre director and sound artist Dimitri de Perrot is known for his poetic, expansive sound installations, which emphasise what is otherwise ignored: the unspectacular, the supposed silence, the background noise.

Take a moment for yourself. Lie down on the ground and concentrate on what you hear. And then let a story of sound be told to you.

When we focus our ears on what is happening at ground level, we gain a whole new focus on the goings-on around us. This is about a change of perspective, about engaging with the present moment and sharpening our senses to perceive our immediatesurroundings.

A first version of «Into the Dirt» was presented in Geneva in 2023 as part of a larger re- search project for the installationtheatre piece «Unter Uns», which will premiere at the Gessnerallee Zurich in autumn 2024.

De Perrot, a renowned sound inventor who has been touring Europe with his projects for over twenty years, has created for the Zürcher Theater Spektakel a work that opens itself up to questions of togetherness and creates a space for contemplation, a space of subtle shades of sound. (se)

Simple words

«Into the Dirt» is an installation.

You sit or lie down on the ground and listen carefully.

The sounds of the earth become a story.

Maybe it’s even a carpet of sound.

What does the ground have to tell us?

It is worth listening.
