Simone Aughterlony & Michael Günzburger
UPROAR
Berlin, ZurichIn Greek mythology, the chimera embodies a being that is both several and one at the same time. This fire-breathing monster – with a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a dragon’s tail – is more than the sum of its parts: it is something distinct, a trinity, intangible.
In «UPROAR» by Simone Aughterlony and Michael Günzburger, the chimera becomes a figure of wild fantasy that embodies the impossible in what is real. The immersive performance defies definition and one-dimensionality: the audience moves freely through the space, lulled into a fantastic mirage of light and sound that engages all the senses. The performers transition through the space, moving walls and other materials. They transform into animal-like creatures, constantly creating new figures and spaces. The performance is a journey into a parallel dimension, a trip into a dreamlike club world.
Once again, Aughterlony and Günzburger join forces in Zurich to celebrate their shared fascination for non-normative bodies and body practices, for transitionary spaces and atmospheres, as well as for overcoming artistic disciplines. For «UPROAR», they collaborate with the Berlin duo LABOUR, whose absorbing, almost hallucinatory sound inspires the listener to fantasise. A sensual ode to kinship and the diversity of perspectives, rather than the fusion of differences and contradictions. (af)
