Grove

Concert

Bristol

Grove’s music brings together activism, integrity and collective energy. Raised within the Jamaican diaspora in Bristol, Grove moves between dancehall and UK bass, transforming colonial musical histories into tools of emancipation. Personal and political themes come together in a powerful, queer and danceable counterstatement to monarchy, imperialism and systemic racism – radical, bass-heavy and full of solidarity.

There is an art to shaping activism into something that remains open and resonant in many directions – without retreating into vagueuniversalism. What makes this possible, what is in fact essential, is integrity. And Grove has more than enough of it.

Living in Bristol and raised within the Jamaican diaspora, Grove’s music is a call for solidarity: with one another, against those who supposedly hold the upper hand. Naturally, this requires a corresponding musical energy. The sound is driving, bass-heavy and deeply connected to its Caribbean roots. Dancehall is just as important a reference as British bass music. In the common ground between these genres, history takes shape – history that becomes productive in Grove’s hands. The colonial past of the Empire is reinterpreted as a tool of emancipation.

The 2021 album «Queer + Black» maps out this terrain: personal and political, radical and playful. It is a contemporary counterstatement to monarchy, imperialism and systemic racism that never loses sight of collective, physical catharsis.
